People waited 14 hours in line for the first In-N-Out burgers ever served in Colorado as police tweeted about traffic jams and other local places to get food instead.

In-N-Out opened its first locations in Colorado on Friday, causing traffic jams, a long line of miles and a 14-hour drive-through wait at one of the locations.

The Californian fast food brand got its start with two locations in the state, in Aurora and Colorado Springs.

Videos shared on Twitter showed part of a large crowd waiting outside the Aurora site.

Aurora Police Department tweeted about opening throughout the day.

“It’s official, the traffic is double, double animal right now all around the mall,” a tweet said. “Maybe support another local restaurant today and In-N-Out another day.”

They controlled traffic near the iconic fast food restaurant and encouraged residents to avoid the area near In-N-Out for the next few days, recommending specific local places to eat instead.

They also estimated that the line of cars was 1.5 to 2 miles long, circling the mall twice, and waiting at 2 p.m. at one point. They said the restaurant eventually had to cut the line, planning to serve the end customer at 2 a.m. local time.

The Colorado Springs location was also greeted with enthusiasm, with a local reporter sharing footage of 30 cars lined up outside in the dark at 3.30am local time.

Another reporter shared a staggered video of part of the long queue of people waiting for orders.

In-N-Out plans to open more locations in the state, including Lone Tree, Lakewood and Fort Collins, the local CBS station reported.
