The sentiment on the pre-recorded first episode of “Jeopardy!” since announcing the death of host Alex Trebek.

What is sadness?

“Peril!” Executive producer Mike Richards delivered a heartwarming special message on Monday in honor of the beloved host, who died at age 80 on Sunday after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

“Over the weekend we lost our beloved host, Alex Trebek,” he said. “This is a huge loss for our staff and our team, for his family and for his millions of fans. He loved this show and everything it stood for. In fact, he recorded his last episodes less than two weeks ago. He will forever be an inspiration for his constant desire to learn, his kindness and his love for his family.

“We will broadcast its last 35 episodes as they are filmed. That’s what he wanted, ”he added, fighting back tears. “On behalf of everyone here at ‘Jeopardy! »Thanks for everything, Alex. It’s “Jeopardy!” “

The show then showed dim lights on the infamous stage that Trebek has graced for nearly four decades – since 1984.

“ABC World News Tonight” host David Muir also honored Trebek when signing on to his show, just before the “Jeopardy!” episode aired.

“We all feel like we have lost a friend,” he said grimly. “What a gentleman and what a courageous fight.”

Trebek’s last day in the studio was October 29, but pre-recorded episodes will air through December, with the last featuring him for Christmas Day.

“Alex has recorded shows until December 25, 2020. They will be broadcast as he sees fit, in his honor,” the show wrote on Instagram.

The show hasn’t announced any nominees to replace Trebek, but fan speculation has grown over who will take on the hosting duties of the top-rated game show.

Trebek adamantly insisted on performing his hospitality duties until he could no longer, vowing to only quit if the cancer affected his performance.

He also teased his possible signing on the show during an interview in January, saying it would only take the 37-year-old host 30 seconds to say goodbye.

“I will say my goodbyes and say to people, ‘Don’t ask me who is going to replace me, because I have nothing to say. But I’m sure if you give them the same love, care and respect that you’ve shown me… then they’ll be a hit, and the show will continue to be a hit, ”he said. .

“And until we meet again, God bless you and goodbye.”
