Persona 25th anniversary website hints at Persona 6 announcement

This September marks the 25th anniversary of the Persona RPG series, and Atlus cannot be accused of under-celebrating the event. The developer teases seven announcements of Persona-related projects, the first of which will be revealed in September.

This septet of announcements runs through “fall 2022,” according to Persona’s 25th anniversary website, so settle in for an extended wait. Five projects are listed as “coming soon” only.

It’s unclear if these new Persona projects will be full games, spinoffs, ports, animated series, toys, or something else. But new merchandise is fueling speculation and I hope maybe, just maybe, one of Atlus’ announcements is related to Person 6, the next game in the franchise.

Two sets of Persona’s birthday-themed products – one focusing on the protagonists of each game in the main series, the other featuring the cover artwork from those games – tease ‘secret’ projects that need to be yet to be announced. The conclusion that many fans draw is that they will feature the hero or artwork from the upcoming Persona game (s).

This September marks not only the 25th anniversary of Persona, but also the fifth anniversary of Person 5the Liberation. This entry in the Persona series was first announced in 2013, with release slated for 2014 on PlayStation 3, alongside derivative titles. Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, Persona 4: dance the night away, and Persona Q: Shadow of the Maze.

Considering the Persona series foray into rhythm games, fighting games, Dynasty Warriors-style beat-’em-ups, and dungeon-style RPGs, it seems likely that Atlus will continue to exploit the series. on a large scale, which could certainly help flesh out that list of announcements of seven projects.

Longtime Persona series producer and director Katsura Hashino has handed over the reins of the franchise to other Atlus creators. He is now working on Re Fantasy Project at Studio Zero, a relatively new group within Atlus.
