1 dead after a helicopter crash in a residential area in Virginia, authorities say

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Virginia authorities state that at least one person was killed in a residential structure after the crash of a helicopter. The impact of the accident caused a fire in Williamsburg townhouses, reports CBS affiliate Richmond, WTVR.

Virginia State Police confirmed the death in a statement Sunday night. The Virginia State Police and the Williamsburg Police Department are both on the scene.

The FAA and the NTSB have been notified to respond to the scene, reports WTVR.

The accident occurred near the campus of William and Mary 's College, which provoked a warning from the university, although the university pointed out that. it did not happen on the William and Mary property.

The Federal Government, State and Police, as well as the Williamsburg Fire Department, are working to identify the pilot of the helicopter,
