A 16-year-old man drowns after jumping from a bridge into a popular swimming hole in Lehi

LEHI, Utah – Search and Rescue Teams Found the Body of Cole Merrill, 16, Early Sunday Morning After He Drowned in the Jordan.

A group of Alpine teenagers had jumped from Old Iron Bridge, a popular swimming hole near 3150 West and 1500 North late Saturday night.

"It's a hot place for kids," Sgt. Thayne's call with the Lehi Police Department said.

He is clearly marked with "no intrusion" signs and the police frequently patrol him to prevent people from swimming there.

Sgt. The call indicates that Merrill made a backward turn of the bridge with two friends about 10 feet above the water's surface.

Two of the boys quickly resurfaced, but Merrill did not do it. it took about four hours for search and rescue crews to find his body that had traveled 20 feet downriver

. This is the second time that someone has died jumping off the bridge according to the Sgt. Call.

On Sunday morning, Makade Hendrix returned to the bridge where his friend died.

"Cole, he was crazy, he was brave," Hendrix said. "As he was ready to do anything."

Holly Cram lives in the area and says that her husband grew up jumping off the bridge

After hearing about the death of the teenager, she thinks there must be a warning more obvious

"I would think of a sign that says" No jumping bridge: risk of death "because that's true," says Cram. "You know, now that there have been two deaths here on this bridge."
