The Ministry of Energy and Mining (Minem) of Peru reported Monday that during the first half of the year, the production of iron, zinc, molybdenum and Tin increased compared to the same period in 2017, At the same time, copper, gold and lead production declined.

According to the latest statistical report of the General Directorate of Mines (DGM) of Minem, at the end of June, iron production reached 9.8% in the first half of 2017; zinc, 4.9% more; molybdenum, 2.6% more; and tin, 0.8% more. However, copper production declined (-0.2%), as did gold (-4.9%), silver (-5.4%) and lead (-10, 1%).

According to the DGM report, the production of gold declined due to lower volumes obtained by Minera Barrick Misquichilca, Compañía de Minas Buenaventura and Minera Yanacocha. In the case of money, in June, it recorded a decrease of 13% compared to the same month of the previous year.

National lead production also had a negative balance at the end of the first half due to a lower Minera Chungar result

The study indicates that 9.8% growth in production is due to the good results obtained from January to May, which made it possible to contain the 23.6% drop recorded in June due to the lower performance of the Shougang Hierro Perú SAA CPS1 mining unit ( -29.6%). In contrast, Antamina contributed to the increase in zinc at Áncash with a 37.4% stake, followed by Junín and Pasco with respectively 18.9% and 15.6%.

Regarding molybdenum, its growth was increased thanks to good reports in June, where it achieved a 10% increase over the previous month. Tin, produced by Minsur S.A., continues with steady growth since the beginning of 2018.
