Martin Luther King Boulevard in Fort Myers is closed due to an officer shooting.

A policeman from Fort Myers was shot dead Saturday night on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Fort Myers is in stable condition.
The members of the security forces who have been watching the hospital since the officer was transported to the hospital are leaving.
The police initially said that the officer was in a stable state. Fort Myers police spokesman Mitch Haley and Fort Myers police chief Derrick Diggs said they could not confirm the officer's condition at the time.
"Thank you for the overwhelming response of kind words and the help of several agencies during this tragic time," reads the message.
The filming took place around 7:30 pm. Near the Marathon petrol station, at 3915 Martin Luther King Rd Jr.

Mayor Randall Henderson is in Asheville, Carolina North, and was informed by phone of the situation, he said.His thoughts were with the officer, he said, "We hold our breath as he struggles for his life." [19659010] The Fort Myers Police Chief, Derrick Diggs, stated that a suspect was in detention.
The circumstances leading up to the shooting are unknown. Two police cruisers are stationed outside the Lee Memorial emergency room. And there is a big police presence there.
"All law enforcement agencies are there, they show you how strong we are," said Fort Myers Councilman Johnny Streets. "We will keep the officer in our prayers," Streets said. "I hope the officer pulls through, that's my hope and my prayer."
Streets said that he heard sirens and helicopters shortly before receiving a call from City Manager Saeed Kazemi.

Kazemi called on all council members to inform them of the shooting, Streets said.
"Apparently, there was a shot back and the suspect was hit," said Streets.
Lee County Undersheriff Carmine Marceno was also in the hospital, but declined to comment out of respect for the officer's family.
Streets notes that it is nearly 10 years after the shooting death of officer Andrew Widman of Fort Myers, who was killed on July 18, 2008.
Chief Diggs said that MLK Boulevard between Michigan Link and Veronica Shoemaker will be closed for the night and probably the morning.
