A Massachusetts police officer was killed after being attacked with a rock with his own rifle, officials say

A Massachusetts police officer died Sunday after a man attacked him with a rock, then took the cop's gun and shot him in the head and chest, indicated officials.

Weymouth police officer Michael Chesna was killed after being wounded to life during the shooting just before 8 am. Chesna was trying to overthrow a man who was driving erratically. The suspect, identified as Emanuel Lopes, exited the vehicle and fled the scene.

Chesna got out of his patrol car, fired his gun and asked Lopes to stop, officials said at a press conference. He then attacked officer Chesna in what is believed to be with a big stone, striking [Chesna] in the head and officer Chesna fell to the ground, "officials said.

Lopes took Chesna's rifle and fired it several times.A spectator was also killed.

The Massachusetts State Police stated that the Crime scene services, ballistics and soldiers assigned to the Norfolk County Attorney's Office were attending the investigation

.Fire took place.

Witnesses said that the man he was crushed on another car, had run away and then fired at the officer. Several bullets hit a nearby house.

April Visco, 43, said in Boston Globe that she heard 10 to 20 shots She ran outside to hear someone shouting, "on the floor", three times. [19659006] "Everyone says" it does not happen in my neighborhood, "she told the Boston Globe. "It happens everywhere."

The police were on the scene Sunday, making their way through the area to find evidence.

The Marshfield police tweeted Sunday morning: "Thoughts and prayers at the Weymouth Police Department and all the officer families."
