The US University closed its campus Wednesday amid reports of an armed person nearby, according to posts posted on social networks. A school spokesman said the confinement had been done by "an abundance of precautions".

At about 1 pm On Wednesday, a man was seen in the 3300 block of New Mexico Avenue NW, said University spokesman Mark Story in a statement. According to the release, the man would have an "exposed handgun".

Authorities received a call about a person who was armed with a firearm at about 1 pm, according to the District of Columbia Police. The report was not immediately confirmed, police said.
