HOUSTON – Storms swept through the Houston area, flooding Wednesday's July 4th celebrations.
An instant flood watch is in effect for Harris, Waller, Chambers, Austin, Colorado, Jackson, Wharton, Fort Bend, Matagorda Counties, Brazoria and Galveston until 9 pm Wednesday.

Some of Wednesday's storms produced precipitation rates of more than 4-8 "across much of Houston.The rain caused areas of concern. high water on the streets and highways in the area.The officials encouraged the motorists to stay on the roads if possible.The Houston police reported that the teams had responded to 127 calls from stranded motorists, and that the Motorists who need to locate towed vehicles should call 3-1-1 or 713-308-8580 for more information.The Independence Day celebrations have been canceled except for the fires. Tomball canceled his annual July 4th party and street festival. Katy canceled her events at Katy Fire Station and Katy Heritage Park, but fireworks at Katy Mills-Typhoon Texas are still on. Galena Park has canceled its July 4th festival, but officials say the fireworks at dusk are still in the schedule. Finally, the Rotary Gate Club Parade and the Montgomery County Parade south in the Woodlands are both canceled
