Marito will plead in favor of the entry of Bolivia into Mercosur – Printed Edition

Paraguayan President-elect Mario Abdo Benitez visited his future Bolivian colleague Evo Morales yesterday in La Paz, which he promised to work for the neighboring country to be a full member of Mercosur . Marito said that a "new stage" of the bilateral relationship has begun.

Among the topics discussed, the elected president has committed to Evo Morales to take the necessary steps to complete the full incorporation of his country to Mercosur. Abdo Benítez recalled that the Paraguayan Congress has already approved the entry of Bolivia into Mercosur, with the conviction to steer towards "the integration of our peoples."

"I pledged to make the corresponding arrangements and to put Bolivia a full member of Mercosur and thus strengthens the potential we have with this alliance," said Marito, the EFE news agency .

Currently, Bolivia has the status of Associated State Mercosur.

The Paraguayan Congress approved in May 2016 the Protocol of Accession of the Plurinational State of Bolivia to Mercosur, signed in Brasilia (Brazil) on July 17, 2015.

The Protocol has already been ratified by Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, and still depends on the approval of the Parliament of Brazil.

Morales thanked Abdo Benitez because his country "has always accompanied for Bolivia to be a full member of Mercosur."

Marito told Evo that his visit to Bolivia is "the beginning of a new stage". Both leaders talked about physical integration across highways; the project of the bioceanic train which leads the Government of Bolivia to connect through its territory the Brazilian port of Santos with the Peruvian port of Ilo; and the export of Bolivian gas to our country.

On the waterway, President Morales sought the advice of Paraguay so that his country could better enjoy this access that allows reaching the Atlantic Ocean.
