The Wayra I the largest wind energy park in Peru, was opened in the district of Marcona province of Nazca in the Department of Ica . The event was attended by the Minister of Energy and Mines, Francisco ÍSmodes and representatives of the company Enel Green Power Peru responsible for carrying out the project.

The wind farm Wayra I with an installed capacity of 132 megawatts, can generate a power equivalent to the consumption of 482 000 families . Its construction required an investment of US $ 165 million .

Wayra I will be able to produce 605 gigawatt-hours, with which the state will seek to guarantee the permanent supply of electricity to the population. The park includes 42 wind turbines that will produce about 600 gigawatt hours per year, to be supplied by Enel to Interconnected National Electricity System for the Peruvian population.

The Minister of Energy and Mines mentions that with the wind farm the target of 5% energy matrix based on renewable energy can be largely exceeded because with the first stage of Wayra I has already reached 4.4%.

He added that the park would produce wind power by avoiding the annual emission of about 285,000 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. He pointed out, in this sense, that this clean energy will take care of the planet for the benefit of present and future generations, reducing greenhouse gases and global warming .

On the other hand, the Country Manager of Enel Perú, José Revuelta declared that with the operation of Wayra I they consolidate their presence in the renewable energy sector in Peru, "contribute to diversify the energy matrix of the country, strengthen the reliability of the energy system and reduce greenhouse gas emissions."

What is a wind farm? Key Data
