The statutes of Christ Church Cathedral's crib, in downtown Indianapolis, depict Mary rocking the baby Jesus while Joseph looks on. "This family is every family looking for the safety of their children," said Dean and Rector of the Church, Steve Carlsen, at CNN.

"On our lawn tonight we placed the Holy Family … in the custody of #ICE," the church wrote on Twitter .

Although scenes of the Nativity are common across the country, people often forget what that means, Carlsen said. "It was a homeless couple who was not welcome, who took refuge in the barn, and it is to this couple that the baby Jesus was born ", he told the Washington Post. "The heart of God is always with those who are marginal, who are vulnerable and have no voice."

The Episcopal Church set up the Monday night exhibition as part of its #EveryFamilyIsHoly campaign. "This family is every family, and every family is holy," said Reverend Canon Lee Curtis.

The church, which has criticized Trump's immigration policies in the past, has no fixed date to dismantle the exhibition. "How long does it take?" Said Carlsen. "I would like it to be outdated and dismantled .It would be my greatest wish."
