The ex-Wayne Man, Florida policeman dies after being shot

WAYNE, NJ – Adam Jobbers-Miller, a former resident of the municipality and police officer of Fort Myers, died on July 28, one week after being shot in the line of duty, according to the Fort Myers Police Department

. "We learned that our Fort Myers police team, Adam Jobbers-Miller, died as a result of injuries sustained on Saturday, July 21," said Mitch Haley, Florida Department of Public Information Officer. "We ask that you continue to pray for the family of Agent Jobbers-Miller, his friends, and the entire family of the Fort Myers Police Department."

Jobbers-Miller was a former student of Wayne Valley High School and former fireman of POL Company No. 2. His father, David is a former leader and life member of Co. 2, and his sister, Nicole, is a longtime member of the Wayne First Aid Squad.

Jobbers-Miller was shot dead by Winser Desmaret, 29, during a foot pursuit on July 21, police said. He was in critical condition since Saturday. Desmaret was accused of stealing a cell phone from a group of children

Desmaret was charged with eight crimes, including an attempted first degree murder, after his release from the hospital, Derrick Diggs, Fort Myers Police Chief. It is unclear whether any of the charges will be changed or improved after Jobbers-Miller's death.

"There is very little time for our city and for the Miller family," Mayor Randall Henderson told USA Today. "We need to stay focused on the family and their support, which will remind us all: first responders, the forces of the law face these challenges every day, we love and respect them, and right now we embrace all "

A candlelight vigil was held at Fire Co. 2 Friday in the honor of Jobbers-Miller. Jobbers-Miller joined firefighters in 2009, USA Today reported.
