The National Republican Committee (RNC) site selection committee reportedly voted in favor of Charlotte, Nc., As host city of the party's 2020 convention.

The RNC's complete body is expected to vote on Friday to make a final decision on the host city, WCNC in Charlotte reports

The council heard from more than 100 citizens who expressed their concerns and support for the idea. Council members finally approved the contracts with a vote of 6-5. Four Democrats and two Republicans supported the offer, while five Democrats voted against him.

Las Vegas was the only other serious city preparing to host the next Republican convention. However, the city convention and the visitors' bureau refused to support the effort, citing contradictory events already scheduled for July 2020.

Charlotte hosted the Democratic National Convention in 2012.

Democrats have not yet decided where they will run for president in 2020, but the party has narrowed the field to three potential host cities: Houston, Miami Beach and Milwaukee
