BRASILIA, July 27 (Xinhua) – Brazilian judge José Antonio Dias Toffoli, ahead the Supreme Federal Court (STF) of Brazil during the current holiday week, granted Friday an injunction to suspend the immediate execution of a one million dollar sentence against the national oil company Petrobras.

Toffoli suspended compliance with a decision of the Superior Court of Labor (TST) that sentenced Petrobras to pay about 17,000 million reais (about 4,500 million dollars) to his employees in compensation.

The judge responded to petition made Thursday by the oil company, which argued the need to suspend payment of the sentence, otherwise it would be "irreparable damage", since there is always the possibility to call on the STF.

According to the state enterprise, the case in which she was convicted involves 51,000 employees in 47 class actions and more than 7,000 individual actions.

"The economic effects that the implementation of this decision can bring to the caisses are well known (…) justifying the decision of this Supreme Court on the case, before proceeding to the liquidation of the court pronounced by the TST ", said Toffoli in his resolution this Friday.

Petrobras lost the case to the TST last June, by a tight vote of 13 against 12 votes. 19659005] The judges ruled the formula for calculating the wage adjustment instituted in 2007, when there was a change in the state labor policy to equalize the wages of different categories.
