AMITYVILLE, N.Y. – Three people, including a father and a son, were killed Sunday in a car accident in suburban New York. The accident killed Alex Demetrius, 27, the driver and a passenger from the other car: Joseph Cloonan, 65, and his 34-year-old son, John Cloonan, both of whom lived in Staten. Island.

Suffolk County police said Demetrius, of Nesconset, was driving eastward to Amityville around 12:30 pm Sunday when his car went into the opposite lanes and hit a car heading west. .

Bryan Cloonan tells Newsday that his uncle Joseph was a married father of three who held three jobs, including as a physical trainer, and played guitar in a band. He calls his uncle "bigger than life".

"I heard two loud strokes," said neighbor Kirk Uson at CBS New York. "It's a bit overwhelming: from time to time, they fly fast here and there, it's a bit overwhelming."
