Pete Davidson returns and pays homage to Norm Macdonald

Pete Davidson has decided not to “hang up the shirt” after all.

The comedian returned to “Saturday Night Live” for its 47th season on October 2 after hinting earlier this year that his tenure on the NBC comedy series may be over.

“I can’t believe I’m back,” Davidson, 27, exclaimed during the Weekend Update segment with co-star Colin Jost, 39.

The live audience enthusiastically applauded Davidson, who spent most of the skit making fun of himself for the outfit he wore at this year’s Met Gala: a black dress, a long white jacket, a bow. butterfly and combat boots.

“It’s a cool dress. I looked like James Bond in his quinceañera, ”he joked. “I was under the impression that one of the three blind mice was selling fentanyl. “

During the skit, Davidson also found a subtle way to pay homage to Norm Macdonald. He was wearing a tie-dye T-shirt featuring the face of the late “SNL” star.

Macdonald, 61, died in September after a private nine-year battle with cancer. He was a regular in the “SNL” series from 1993 to 1998.

As Page Six previously reported, fans speculated that season 46 of “SNL” could have been Davidson’s last after his May interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

“Yes I’m fine. I’m surprised I hit seven [seasons], he said at the time. “I’m ready to hang up the jersey.

The rumors were further fueled after Davidson gave a touching speech in the Season 46 finale.

“I am very grateful to be here,” he said. “It has been an honor growing up in front of you guys.”
