After a few hiccups in the upcoming UFC bantamweight championship fight in the Octagon, Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling finally have a new date.
Two people with knowledge of the situation informed MMA Junkie on Thursday that contracts had been awarded to Yan (15-1 MMA, 7-0 UFC) and Sterling (19-3 MMA, 11-3 UFC) for the UFC 259 event. of March, raising the fight card to three championship fights.
People have requested anonymity as the UFC has yet to make an official announcement.
UFC 259 takes place on March 6. A location and location have not been revealed, but the main map is airing on pay-per-view after the expected preliminaries on ESPN and ESPN +.
Yan has so far staged a brilliant undefeated race in the UFC, defeating any enemies that stood in front of him. After Henry Cejudo quashed the 135-pound title earlier this year, Yan won the vacant belt against Jose Aldo at UFC 251 last July.
He was supposed to make his first title defense at UFC 256 in December, but was forced to retire due to personal issues.
Sterling, 31, has won his title with a five-game winning streak and wins in seven of his last eight fights total. He just submitted a quick submission in Cory Sandhagen’s first round at UFC 250 in June.
