Five men and a girl who sought shelter under a tree during a storm at the East Lake Golf Club were injured when lightning struck the tree, said the police department spokesman. Atlanta, James White.

Nearly 30 minutes after the organizers' activities were suspended, lightning struck a tree and debris from the strike injured some people, the PGA said.

"The safety of our fans, players and partners is of utmost importance," the statement said.

All the game was suspended for the day in the end-of-season tournament in Atlanta with Justin Thomas in the lead, Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka. The tournament should resume Sunday morning.

The PGA Tour Championship has been held at the East Lake Golf Club since 2004. The winner will win $ 15 million with cash prizes available to all participants.
