The idea is that you play as a member of a special forces team in 1991, specifically the days immediately preceding the fall of the Soviet Union. As the Baltic States reorganized themselves into independent nations, a group of terrorists was able to escape with a deadly chemical weapon, which they use to threaten the rest of the world. In addition, they located their base of operations in a swamp inaccessible to land or air attacks. And that's where kayaking comes in.
I played an abbreviated version of the introductory mission at E3 and this game turned out to be a lot more fun than I expected. It's as if you meet Sam Shepard and Gator McKlusky and ask the resulting soldier to paddle to blow up a radio tower (the goal of the first mission). Ghost is at its essence a devious espionage thriller in the same vein as Splinter Cell – Just, you're on a boat.
The way you decide to play has not only an effect on how you fulfill (or not) your mission goals, but also on your ability to score goals at the end of the level. The game will feature a number of level badges to unlock – Shark, for killing 10 or more enemies, and Phantom, to pass through the undetected level – to attract repeated hits.
Secret Ghost Operations will be available for quest and flaw when it will be released later this year. It is unclear how many levels will be available at launch or MSRP.
