During the last episode of Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb’s Xbox podcast, Division Chief Phil Spencer discussed the Bethesda acquisition.

Spencer mentioned that final approval of the deal will come in 2021 and everything is on track. He feels really good about it. At the moment, Microsoft is “hands off” with Bethesda as they continue to do the work they do because the deal is yet to be done.

By the way, speaking of the $ 7 billion deal, Spencer confirmed that the company is doing well, profitable and growing.

He went on to mention that the Bethesda teams are going to be “very, very critical” of Xbox progress going forward. He looks forward to closing the deal so they can start working as one company. He’s “incredibly excited” about Starfield and other games, some of which have already been announced and some not.

Spencer believes Bethesda is going to be an “incredible addition” to Microsoft’s proprietary studios. He’s excited about 2021 and Bethesda is “an extremely important part of it.”

It will certainly be interesting to see what this partnership between Xbox and Bethesda brings. At the moment, we know that Bethesda is working on Starfield, which is probably still a long way off, while The Elder Scrolls IV is probably even further into the future.
