In response to Reuters' inquiries, Philip Morris (NYSE: PM) suspended a global social media marketing campaign that saw young online personalities market its new IQOS "hot tobacco" device.

"No laws have been broken," the company told Reuters, "but these facts do not excuse our inability to meet our marketing standards."

Last month, the FDA decided to authorize IQOS sales in the United States at the end of a two-year review process during which Philip Morris had assured several times to the regulator that he would warn young people of the product.
