On Saturday, the Shasta County Sheriff's Office confirmed what Ed Bledsoe already knew.
His wife Melody and the great grandchildren that they had raised, James Roberts, age 5, and Emily Roberts, aged 4, died in the fire on Thursday night.
"I was talking to Junior when the fire tried to go through the back door," he said. And he just kept screaming for me to go there. To hurry up. I got up on the hill. I arrived at Quartz Hill up there, but they did not let me go home to catch them. "

A shelter for people displaced by the fire has reached its full capacity as firefighters order more evacuations. Peter Griggs, a spokesman for Shasta College in Redding, says the school's evacuation center has reached its maximum capacity Saturday and that it hosts 500 people.
The college gymnasium is filled with beds and volunteers from the American Red Cross
Other mandatory evacuations were ordered Saturday afternoon for communities south of Redding and three other shelters still take evacuees.
The fire displaced 37,000 people.

(AP) – President Donald Trump issued an emergency statement for California allowing counties affected by forest fires to receive federal assistance.
A White House statement released Saturday indicates that the statement allows the Federal Emergency Management Agency to provide the necessary equipment.
California firefighters say more than 10,000 firefighters are working to stop the progression of 14 large fires throughout the state.
They say the fires killed three firefighters and destroyed more than 500 structures.

The Carr fire near Redding extended from Friday to Saturday, causing further evacuations.
Cal Fire officials reported that the fire increased to 80,906 acres, up from 48,312 on Friday night. The fire remains contained at 5%.
Chris Anthony, deputy chief of Cal Fire, says the winds fuel the fire but also repel it from Redding and other populated areas. Thousands of people remain under evacuation orders, including the small towns of Ono and Igo.
Two people have already been killed by the fire that destroyed 500 structures, with nearly 5,000 other homes threatened.

Approximately 38,000 people were evacuated Friday morning because of the Carr fire in Redding and parts of Shasta County.
Mike Mohler, deputy director of communications for Cal Fire, said the fire was an unprecedented "career fire". firefighters working to control the fire and protect civilians.

Cal Fire posted evacuation orders for much of West Redding due Carr Fire. People living between Keswick Dam Road north of the Sacramento River up to Prospect Drive are urged to evacuate immediately.
Carr Fire burned about 1,000 acres per hour Thursday in the heat of the day and was heading for West Redding. Cal Fire reported that 15 structures had been destroyed and five had been damaged on Thursday at 9pm.
Many parts of West Redding are marked by wooded areas filled with oaks and scrub that go back to residential areas. Nearly 500 structures are threatened.
When asked if it was possible for fire to invade the city, Scott McLean, commander of the caliber fires, said, "It depends on the fire."
McLean described some unpredictable behavior.
"There are firenados (which I have not seen for six years blowing the windows of a Cal Fire vehicle", said McLean, adding that the weather did not even seem like evening "At this point, we are heading north-east and south-east, then we change direction and head east to Redding."
