CEBU CITY-At least 69 passengers and five crew members were rescued from a motorboat that stalled off Gilutongan, Cordova town, Cebu Tuesday morning.

MB Meme 5 came from Cordova town and was sailing towards Getafe, Bohol when it encountered big waves past 7 am, said boat skipper Dario Romo.

Romo Said huge waves punctured a hole on the side of the boat.

The skipper sought help from another bank which happened to pass by.

Junior Lieutenant Mike Enicina, Spokesman of the Coast Guard-Cebu Station, said they learned about the incident of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office in Cordova town.

The Multi-Role Response Vessel (MRRV) 4404 was dispatched for rescue operations.

The boat was already half-submerged when rescuers from the Coast Guard arrived.

Some of the passengers were brought to Cebu City, while some were brought back to Cordova.

Lt. Commander Alvin Dagalea, commander of Coast Guard-Cebu Station Cebu, said the investigation will be determined by the accident.

Dagalea said the initial information that they received that the motorboat encountered mechanical problems before it got stalled.

Dagalea said the boat was not overloaded during the incident since it was capable of carrying 70 passengers.
