Lots of people – including several candidates – ran for Pistang Pilipino (aka Pistang Pinoy), the annual picnic held by the Arkansas-based Philippine Association. The event was held on June 23 at Pavilion No. 2 west of Little Rock Maumelle Park
The picnic kicked off with its traditional Santacruzan parade – a historic religious spectacle that has took place in the Philippines in May. girls in communion robes; dancers who would perform later; and Miss APA 2018 herself: Joann "JoJo" Sims, famed Little Rock restaurant waiter / "mixologist", who went up the rear after the ladies' walk in his yard.
Then came the time to eat. From lechon (roasted pig) to leche flan (caramel cream), the food – Filipino and American – was abundant at the potluck. Not only was there enough for everyone to feast; Persistent guests were offered take-away packages at the end of the picnic.
Primo Novero, with Sims, served as announcer for the day; The chairman of the board, Cris Balleza, also shared his remarks. Entertainment included a number of games with cash prizes for the winners; and several folk dance performances, including the tinikling dance, featuring young women skilfully crossing and between two poles of bamboo being beaten together and tapped on the floor by a pair of handlers.
The conclusion of the event was an opportunity for picnickers to work the calories through a little dance online.
In addition to food products, guests brought non-perishable goods as charitable donations.
