The CNMI senior star team beat Indonesia 15-0 yesterday at the 2018 Asia-Pacific-Middle East regional tournament at the Clark Freeport area from Global Villages in Pampanga, Philippines.
Kiana Aldan launched for the CNMI and led the team to victory after only four innings. The victory came just a day after the team managed by Doru Camacho lost to Guam in his opening match of the World Series Qualifying Tournament
. The CNMI is tied for third place with Hong Kong. the ranking of the team. Guam, who beat New Zealand yesterday, 6-2, is in first place after upgrading to a 3-0 record, while the latter dropped to a 2-1 mark for a stalemate for second place with the Philippines. The host cleared India yesterday, 7-0, for its second win. India is at the bottom of the list of seven teams after losing three games, while Indonesia has not won yet after two matches.
The CNMI will play today against New Zealand for its last game hopes to do it back-to-back to avoid being paired with higher-ranked opponents in the playoffs. In the playoff round, No. 1 will finish in the semifinals, while No. 2 to 7 will compete for the last three places. The pairs for the three semifinal battles are: 2 against 7, 3 against 5 and 4 against 6. The playoff games will start tomorrow, while the final date will be announced once the semi-finals are over.
Meanwhile, the CNMI junior league All-Stars will also shoot for the No. 2 win today, but will certainly need a big game to overthrow the hugely popular Taipei Chinese.
Chinese Taipei is unscathed up here in the tournament, having won its first three games. The defending champion has not yet managed to get rid of the tournament after being imposed against Hong Kong (22-0), the Philippines (10-0) and China (16-0).
The CNMI, on the other hand, came out of an 11-1 triumph over China after losing its first match against the host, 2-5. The match against Chinese-Taipei is the penultimate of the Commonwealth in the playoff round, while the last will be against Hong Kong tomorrow.
Greg Camacho's Junior All-Stars are to finish in the Top 4 to qualify for the playoffs and there are only three playoff spots left in the division, with Chinese Taipei already in first place. The Philippines, who beat Hong Kong yesterday (1-0), are in second place with a 2-1 record. China and Hong Kong show similar results from 0 to 2.
In other results, the All-Stars of the Major League of the CNMI dropped to 0-2 after falling yesterday in Korea, 0 -16, at Hwaseong Dream Park Seoul. The Commonwealth bets have to make more matches (against Guam today and against Indonesia tomorrow) in the elimination and have to sweep them to keep their hopes of playoffs alive. Only the top 2 teams in each group will move into the playoff round.
