The Lego store in Budapest, Hungary, jumped the rifle and confirmed the James Bond Aston Martin DB5 kit that the company was teasing. The European store now accepts pre-orders for 49,999 Hungarian Forint (£ 135 at current exchange rates), and these people can pick up the DB5 plastic on August 1st. Sales to all others begin August 8th.
Unfortunately, there are no photos of the kit yet. It should be an attractive mockup of the DB5 and, hopefully, with a minifig Bond as an added bonus. The plastic machine probably contains all of Bond's gadgets, such as rotating license plates, front-mounted machine guns, a bulletproof shield at the rear, tire slashers and an ejection seat. Lego engineers could even find a way to incorporate the car's smoke screen and oil slick features. If the company can not know how to incorporate them, expect smart builders to come up with a solution.
The Aston Martin DB5 kit is part of the Lego Creator Expert range. This collection is full of large, very detailed models and already includes vehicles such as the Ferrari F40, the Mini Cooper, the Volkswagen Beetle and the VW Transporter. This should be perfectly suited to Bond's DB5.
While 135 pounds may seem like a model, it's only a fraction of what the real thing would cost. For example, Bonhams will sell GoldenEye's Bond DB5 on July 13, and the car will cost about £ 1.6 million. It will still not have all the gadgets of the Lego version, however
