Elvis Costello canceled the last six concerts of his European summer tour with his group, the Impostors, on Friday, revealing that he had undergone an intervention Surgery for "a very aggressive little cancer, malignancy" and recovery required his full attention.
The 63-year-old singer posted a statement via his website. He said that he had been diagnosed by his doctor six weeks ago and, after learning that the surgery recommended three to four weeks of recovery, was delighted to continue the tour as planned.
"It was impossible to judge meeting the requirements of a traveling musician, playing 90 minutes to 2 hours plus shows on a nightly basis, but by the time we arrived at the Edinburgh Playhouse, I was not going to be able to play. I was almost deceived into thinking that normal service had been resumed, "he writes
At the end of June, Costello canceled two concerts citing salvage problems.
" The spirit was more than eager but I must now accept that it will take longer than I would have liked to recover my full strength, "wrote Costello." Therefore, I must reluctantly cancel all the remaining engagements of this tour. "
Canceled concerts include stops in Britain, Croatia, Austria, Norway and Sweden.
While Costello did not reveal any details regarding his diagnosis, he concluded with a request for his male fans , urging them to talk to their friends
"You will find that you are not alone – ask your doctor for advice if you have a doubt or when it is appropriate and act as quickly as you can in these matters. "Believe me, it's better than playing roulette," Costello adds.
