Maserati has made its entry-level V6 petrol engine available in the newly updated Levante SUV and the flagship Quattroporte sedan. A new addition for both, the additional powertrain option corresponds to a 2019 model update for the Levante, which also won a series of subtle upgrades, not to mention another model V8 petrol called GTS, although it is not yet confirmed for the UK.
The engine itself is a 3-liter turbocharged V6 producing 345 hp, and already has a house under the hood of the smaller Ghibli sedan. Here, it will provide a new entry point into the respective Levante and Quattroporte gasoline ranges, priced at £ 5k more than the rather gruff 3-liter V6 turbo diesel models.

The Levante and the Quattroporte will reach 62 mph in 5.5sec and 6.0sec respectively, not too bad for something considered a powertrain d & Entry level. There is however a caveat in this regard, as although the use of gasoline engines in large cars is becoming more common these days, the low combined figures of MPG are not. No doubt aggravated by the new WLTP regulations, they sit at a slightly shocking 23.5mpg for the Levante, and 25.2mpg for the Quattroporte.
The rest of the new Levante range also received a brushstroke, boasting new LED headlights and new wheel designs. The interior has also been improved, with a new speed selector, and optional full grain leathers of the type usually reserved for Hermes, not for Maserati.
Prices start at £ 61,425 for the Levante and £ 78,100 for the Quattroporte, both models can then be specified in the Specification Gran Sport or Gran Lusso. Available to order now, both make intriguing alternatives to German competition.
