The Waffle House breakfast restaurant chain uses World Emoji Day as a platform to lobby for a waffle emoji. He began with a sad reading tweet "Wish we could celebrate #WorldEmojiDay …. #wheresthewaffleemoji" and escalated to a large-scale pleading.
As part of a longer message, Waffle House wrote, "In the myriad of emoji choices, the waffle is completely unrepresented." The chain recognizes that an embossed emoji is nominated for the next official emoji endorsed tour, but it is also asking its fans to appeal to Unicode, Apple and Google to get behind the waffle.
Perhaps the strangest tweet comes from an unlikely place, the Tampa International Airport in Florida. The airport posted a picture of a United Airlines jet that was taking off with an Apple emoji that was coming off its back.
"Forgive me if I was rude, it was not me, it was my fuel," writes Tampa International, turning emoji into a fart joke.
