Honda expands engine range for Civic with turbo-diesel i-DTEC
The tenth-generation Honda Civic is now available with a turbo-diesel engine. Yes, you read correctly, the Civic FC can now be equipped with the new 1.6-liter i-DTEC four-cylinder engine of the all-new CR-V.
Introduced by Honda to offer "exhilarating performance to the driver with efficiency", the Civic i-DTEC combines a diesel coupler with a smooth-shifting automatic transmission.
As mentioned earlier, the diesel-powered Civic is powered by a 1-turbo i-DTEC turbo diesel engine, 6 liter. It's the same engine as the i-DTEC CR-V that develops 120 PS at 4000 rpm with 300 Nm of torque at 2000 rpm. It is then paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. With it, the i-DTEC Civic can go from 0 to 100 km / h in 11 seconds and reach a top speed of 200 km / h.
According to Honda, the 1.6-liter turbo-diesel plant benefits from forged steel pistons that help reduce cooling losses and allow smoother piston movement. It also features a Variable Nozzle Turbocharger (VNT) that minimizes turbo lag, and improves mid-range traction and high-speed performance.

To reduce emissions, the i-DTEC engine has a new storage converter system Nox (NSC) with superior cell density processing that allows faster conversion and reduced emissions. It is also equipped with a thin, silver-coated particle filter that improves the efficiency of particle combustion.
The nine-speed automatic transmission can, however, pass through the gears to improve fuel economy and speed up gear changes. In fact, Honda mentioned that the nine-speed automatic transmission could go directly from the ninth to the fifth or the seventh to the fourth in automatic mode
The 2019 Honda Civic i-DTEC will soon be launched on European markets and will be available in both four- and five-door body styles. There is no word yet whether the diesel-powered Civic will be available in other global markets.
