Yesterday I was pleased to discover that Netflix did the right thing and changed Altered Carbon for a second season.I was a little surprised that it took so much time, given the generosity of Netflix with its renewals, but Altered Carbon must be a production extremely expensive with the blockbuster effects of sci-fi, so perhaps that was a consideration in relation to all that Netflix cache.
Altered Carbon is the # One of my favorite sci-fi books, and I've been happy to see it become my favorite sci-fi shows too, the bad news – the nature of the show means that it's practically a anthology, replacing almost all of its distribution as He's moving on to new stories.
Yes, part of that is just the central character, Takeshi Kovacs, moving to a new location in the galaxy, but it's also because Altered Carbon is all about people wearing "Sleeves", namely. the human consciousness being transferred between the bodies. Last season, Kovacs was played by Joel Kinnnaman, whose body was that of a disgraced police officer. This year, Kovacs will be played by The Hurt Locker / Anthony Mackie of Marvel, a brand new cover.
Further details on Season 2 are rare, but the book two of the series Altered Carbon is on a Sprawling space warfare, which will likely have to be lightened a bit for the screen. And it seems unlikely that other favorite characters from fans like Chris Conner's Poe or Martha Higareda's Ortega will come back, since this new story is far from the old. One of the only actors I can see back is the "original" Kovacs body, played by Will Yun Lee.
I'm delighted to see Mackie in the role, although I really liked Kinnaman at the end of season 1, I'm sad to see him leave, with just about everything else from the cast. But the showrunner, Laeta Kalogridis, remains in place, so I hope the quality of season 2 will echo the first.
It's easily one of my favorite sci-fi series of recent history, and Netflix Stranger Things although comparing the two is a bit of apples and oranges, despite sharing a genre. I highly recommend watching season 1 for yourself, even if some of its parts may be … hard to digest if you do not have graphic violence on the screen (and nudity !)
As for Mackie, I watched him play the second violin at half the Marvel Universe as Falcon in so many movies now (five?), That I'm eager to see how he is as a leading man. I have no doubt that he will be up to the task, and he will have to make the most of what will undoubtedly be his only season in the role.
Altered Carbon Season 2 has no date yet, but stay tuned for more info as Netflix fate.
