The Armed Forces of Mindanao West-Philippines Command (AFP-WestMinCom) through the Philippine Navy hosted the Royal Australian Navy Tawi-tawi for the 2nd stage of the 4th combined PN-RAN maritime security activity, held on Sunday
The naval station Juan Magluyan, an organic unit of NFWM facilitated the arrival and opening ceremony of the 4th PN-RAN MSA with the two patrol boats of the Royal Australian Navy – HMAS Ararat and HMAS Wollongong in Batu-Bato, Panglima Sugala, Tawi-Tawi.
This activity was attended by Lieutenant Colonel Judd Finger of the Australian Government JTG 629 and Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) Muksin A Jasid, Commander, Naval Station Juan Magluyan. They were joined by the officers of the NSJM and the commanders of the PN vessel
Just after the opening ceremony, fraternity games between the PN and RAN delegates were held, followed by a fight of battles that served as a symbol of brotherhood. In addition, a series of meeting and maritime patrol procedures in the maritime communications lines (SLOC), in particular in the waters of Zampelan (Zamboanga Peninsula, Lanao) Basilan and Tawi-Tawi, have been conducted. In addition, various exercises aboard PN and RAN vessels have also been undertaken for the benefit and preparation of the crew on board.
The vessels involved in maritime patrols under the control of NFWM are BRP Felix Apolinario (PC 395), BRP Anastacio Cacayorin (PC 387), multi-purpose attack building BA 482. On the other hand, the HMAS Wollongong and HMAS Ararat were used by the Royal Australian Navy.
Previously, a coordination / planning conference was held by the NP with its RAN counterparts in June. 5, 2018 as preparation for driving the 4th MSA. Similarly, the first stage of this MSA took place in the West Naval Forces (NFW AOR) area of responsibility from 16 to 25 July 2018.
According to AFP WestMinCom, the continuation of this activity has reinforced maritime interoperability between the PN and the RAN and other regional state navies, as well as the current operations of Naval Task Force Basilan and the Naval Working Group ZAMPELAN to prevent and eradicate piracy, kidnapping and terrorism in the maritime domain.
