Nokia x7 launched: Snapdragon 710 under $300!

[ad_1]

Just a few years since they entered the Android space, Nokia now has multiple compelling offerings across various price points, all with great built, Stock Android and amazing price tags. HMD Global is also known to launch some of these phones in China first, and then bring them to the Global markets. The Nokia X7 is one phone that I really wish follows suit, after its launch in China.

If history is any indication, the Nokia X7 will come to other markets rechristened as the Nokia 7.1 Plus, a worthy successor to the much loved Nokia 7 Plus. The 7 Plus was so well received because of its exceptional build quality, great performance thanks to the Snapdragon 660 and  Android One inside and a fairly decent price tag for the pre-Pocophone era. While I don’t expect this phone to be priced as crazily as it is in China, even a premium of a few thousand will still make this a compelling deal for India.

Nokia X7 specifications

The X7 matches most 2018 phones with its tall 6.2-inch FullHD+ display with a notch, with PureDisplay tech and support for HDR10 content playback. The back is made out of a very well made glass that adds to the premium feel, and that’s where the dual cameras and the fingerprint scanner reside. This is a Zeiss branded setup with a Sony IMX 363 primary sensor at 12-megapixels, assisted by a 13-megapixel secondary depth sensor, with Optical Image stabilization and AI scene detection. The front camera is a 20-megapixel f/2.0 unit.

As mentioned earlier, this phone is powered by the very capable Snapdragon 710, meant for premium mid-rangers. These Kryo cores get very close to flagship grade performance while maintaining battery efficiency. That is a 3,500 mAh battery, with support for 18W fast charging via USB Type-C. RAM and Storage go all the way up to 6 and 128GB, with further expansion possible to augment the latter. There is also support for Bluetooth 5.0.

Following the trend of all Nokia phones, this phone is expected to run on Android One when it reaches outside China, and their track record with updates has also been pretty solid. So this phone is an upgrade over the Nokia 7 Plus in pretty much every way, which is exciting for us.

Nokia X7 price

The phone is currently available only in China, and is available in the following Memory and Storage configurations:

  • 6GB + 64GB: CNY 1,999 (~INR 21,000)
  • 6GB + 128GB: CNY 2,499 (~INR 26,500)

It will be available in 4 colours variants viz. Dark Blue, Night Red, Magic Night Silver, Night Black.

EOTO’s take on the Nokia X7 (Nokia 7.1 Plus)

It’s almost certain that this phone will come to India in the coming months as the 7.1 Plus. The original 7 Plus was a phone that I heavily recommended and this phone is a clear upgrade over that. The only competition that exists is the Poco F1, which wins on fronts like processing and battery size, but for everyone who wants a more premium device, clean fast Android, great cameras, software updates, the Nokia X7 definitely deserves a spot on your shortlist.
