And, hopefully, at least three of them would be used once the campaign began next year, according to PNP chief executive Oscar Albayalde.

Albayalde said helicopters are needed for immediate disaster and disaster response, adding that they would speed up and facilitate the deployment of troops and even their personnel requiring immediate medical attention.

Director Jose Ma. Victor Ramos, Head of Logistics Branch, said four of the new helicopters are expected to arrive next year and three more by 2020.

He said that all had been bought new and came with the training of police pilots.

Currently, the PNP has a helicopter that is sometimes used by Albayalde to visit wounded and murdered police in the Luzon area.

It was recalled that the purchase of helicopters had been controversial under the Arroyo administration since one of the two helicopters had been used but had been purchased as new.

PNP leaders have vowed that this will never happen again.
