Nearly 9,000 law graduates will be competing in this year's Bar exams at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) in Manila.

The Supreme Court (SC) confidant's office announced that 8,701 people had applied for the bar exams, which had been set for November 4, 11, 18 and 25.
"This is the largest number of candidates for the bar in recent years," said the CS in a statement.
In total, 6,831 people have passed the bar exams in 2016 and 6,748 in 2017.
Schedule of exams
November 4th – Political and International Law (8am to 12pm); Labor law and social legislation (from 14h to 18h)
November 11 – Civil Law (from 8 am to noon); Tax law (from 14h to 18h)
November 18 – Merchant Law (8 am to noon); Criminal law (from 14h to 18h)
25 November – catch-up law (8h to 12h); Legal and judicial ethics and practical exercises (14h to 18h)
Free Shuttle
The Oversight Committee indicated that 10 coaches would be available to transport UST candidates and service personnel from multiple departure points and that they would be posted as early as 4.30am. The first trip to the USS would depart at 5am.
These starting points are the commemorative circle of Quezon City near the Philippine coconut authority (two buses); Park and Ride, Lawton, Manila (a bus); New complex of buildings SC Avenue Taft (two buses); Greenbelt and Glorietta, Ayala Center, Makati (two buses); and Marikina Sports Complex (a bus).
The CD reminded the bars and authorized service personnel to board the shuttles. Boarding must be done on a first-come, first-served basis.
To benefit from this service, they must present their admission notice, their pass and / or identity cards, as the case may be, to the driver before being able to board.
Traffic redirection
In the meantime, motorists are advised to take alternate routes, as several roads and roads in Manila leading to the UST must be closed.
The Traffic Control Unit (DTEU) of the Manila Police District (MPD) has indicated that the westbound lane of España Boulevard from AH Lacson Avenue to P. Noval Street will be closed from 3:00 pm . at 7 pm every Sunday of the bar.
All southbound vehicles must drive AH Lacson Avenue straight to Nagtahan to their destination, while vehicles traveling westbound towards the España Highway turn turn right on AH Lacson, then left towards Laong-Laan, towards A. Mendoza.
It is strictly forbidden to park in the streets along the boulevard España, A.H. Lacson Avenue, Dapitan Street and P. Noval Street.
Plan of urgency
The SC has put in place emergency plans for candidates and service personnel in case of heavy rains and floods during exam dates.
Today, the Philippine Department of Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services (PAGASA) is forecasting generally warm weather, with easterly winds bringing warm air, skies and air cloudy and possible rain showers.
In case of flood at UST, the SC prepared vans to transport candidates and service personnel to their respective examination buildings before and after the exams during exam dates.
However, older people, pregnant women and people with disabilities should benefit from a priority use of suburban vans.
Secure place
For four Sundays in November, 434 police officers from the NCRPO will be deployed in the vicinity of the UST, said director Guillermo Eleazar.
"Annual bar reviews are important steps in our annual calendar. The police will maintain the importance of these days and will preserve their importance for the judicial system of our country, "said Eleazar.
"We will exhaust all efforts to ensure peace and order in the interest of those examined and their families," he added.
The NCRPO chief stated that the police intelligence services had not monitored any security threats, but that does not mean that security will be lax because there is a record of violence at the Philippine bar by the past.
MPD Director General Rolando Anduyan said police security personnel had "doubled their efforts and increased security on several points of convergence".
Anduyan called for public vigilance to help security in their security efforts. "If you notice unusual activity or suspicious people, report it immediately to the authorities," he said.
Alcohol prohibit
Eleazar reminded all applicants, their family and friends, as well as all residents near the university, that an alcohol ban is applied as of Saturday, the day before the exams start, until Sunday.
"Offenders will be taken to the police station and booked accordingly," he said.
