Girls dominate at MTV EMAS
Sad. Boohoo. IV of Spades did not win the Southeast Asian Best Act Award at the MTV European Music Awards (EMAS). The large-scale event, which is truly more global than Europe, took place on 4 November at Bizkaia Arena in Bilbao's Bilbao Exhibition Center in Bilbao, Bilbao, Spain.
The prize was awarded to Malaysian hip-hop icon Joe Flizzow, who was previously part of the popular Too Phat band, but has now gone solo. Besides Spades IV, Flizzow also beat Afgan of Indonesia; Sam Willows of Singapore; Slot machine from Thailand; Minh Hang from Vietnam; and Southside Twopee also from Thailand.
Fans of spades should not really feel bad about it. Please note that the group only exists for a little over a year and has only one great success, Mundo. If the members of the group play their cards well, they will surely get more appointments to the EMA in the years to come. And that is with or without ex-Unique frontman. Remember when Mundo became a hit, Unique was always a Spade.
For Pinoy music fans who feel discouraged about this, please note that only three Filipino artists have been nominated in the Best Law category for Southeast Asia. IV of Spades was the fourth. And we have already won twice. Sarah Geronimo became a laureate in 2013, while James Reid was the choice last year. It is therefore time to examine the local acts likely to be appointed in 2019.
Despite this, there is something to be happy with this year's EMAs. The guests have really presented a fantastic show. And believe, most of the figures were made by female artists as well as by the winners. As in the recent American Music Awards, it's the girls who have dominated the night in terms of look, show and even rewards.
The winner of the 2018 European Music Awards was Global Icon winner Janet Jackson. It was good to watch Janet at her best after a very long time. In beauty and form, she made a medley of Made For Now, All For You and Rhythm Nation with, hold your horses!, Many dancers, drummers, torches accompanied by torchbearers and many explosions. I just imagine a talking balloon over her head that was aimed at other girls: "I started all that, you know.
Regarding the different categories EMA, the big winner of the evening which, I think, was not even born when Jackson made his first recording was Camila Cabello, who unfortunately did not play, but literally looked like to the most beautiful bullets in flamboyant red. She has won four trophies, all from the six most important categories: best artist, best song, best video for Havana ft. Young Thug and better American law.
I do not know if Ariana Grande came home with tears in her eyes because she did not win anything despite her five nominations. But the happy girls were all the winners Dua Lipa, Cardi B, Little Mix and Nicki Minaj, who gave the show a flamboyant start, Good Form and great, Goodbye with Jason DeRulo and David Guetta. It was also nice to see Alessia Cara after a while being delightful, trusting My Lonely. I am a mess number was really spectacular. And Hailee Steinfeld did not only for Back For Life, a great performer, but she was also a pretty and very talented entertainer.
