Disney's musicals, Aladdin and The Lion King, announced today that a Pop-Up d & # 39; Summer will open its doors to Disney fans at Covent Garden throughout the month of August. Located at 25 Long Acre in the heart of the theater district, the Pop-Up will be open daily from Tuesday, July 31 through Sunday, August 26 with a host of free interactive experiences and special events.
Discover the masks, puppets and iconic costumes of The Lion King, a Tony Award winner, and discover the inspiration behind many awesome designs. Guests will also have the opportunity to enter a specially created "Grotto of Wonders", where they will be able to take a picture with the legendary lamp of Aladdin.
The fun continues around Covent Garden's Piazza where visitors are invited to dive into a treasure hunt to discover four magic lamps – each offering a clue to an Aladdin-themed puzzle. Those who decipher the message will be able to bring home a limited edition poster as a well-deserved reward.
In addition to this, a variety of free events will be held each day in the Pop-Up, including performances by members of both West End Year Shows, puppet demonstrations and masterclasses of stage make-up, as well as vocal workshops and mouthfuls of movement to get a first idea of the music and the choreography of the shows. This summer, Disney UK celebrated the second anniversary of Aladdin in the West End. Opened at the Prince Edward Theater in June 2016, as The Lion King celebrates its 19th year triumphal at the Lyceum Theater.
Aladdin, Disney's West End musical, was critically acclaimed at Prince Edward Theater on June 15, 2016 performances as of May 27, 2016. Tickets are now on sale for performances until the end of the year. February 9, 2019 for individuals and until June 1, 2019 for group bookings.
Fifth record year on Broadway at the New Amsterdam Theater, Aladdin's global presence has reached six productions on four continents, viewed by more than 7.2 million people to date. Aladdin was designed by Olivier and seven-time Tony- winning scenic designer Bob Crowley, Tony's award-winning lighting designer, Natasha Katz, Olivier and award-winning costume designer Tony, Gregg Barnes , and sound designer Ken Travis. Casting is by Jill Green CDG.
The production team also includes illusion designer Jim Steinmeyer, hair designer Josh Marquette and makeup designer Milagros Medina-Cerdeira. The Broadway score presents the music of Elton John and Tim Rice from the animated film The Lion King. three new songs by John and Rice; additional musical equipment by Lebo M from South Africa, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, Julie Taymor and Hans Zimmer; and the music of "Rhythm of the Pride Lands", an album inspired by the original music of the film, written by Lebo M, Mark Mancina and Hans Zimmer. The resulting sound of The Lion King is a fusion of Western folk music and the distinctive sounds and rhythms of Africa, ranging from the Oscar-winning song "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" to the mesmerizing ballad "Shadowland".
The book was adapted by Roger Allers, who co-directed the animated feature film The Lion King, and Irene Mecchi, who co-wrote the film's script. Other members of the creative team include: Michael Curry, who designed the masks and puppets with Taymor, Steve Canyon Kennedy (sound design), Michael Ward (hair and makeup), John Stefaniuk (associate director), Marey Griffith (Associate Choreographer), Clement Ishmael (Music Supervisor) and Doc Zorthian (Production Supervisor).
