Bombs explode outside Peter Lim's office in Mandaue

CEBU CITY – Two improvised bombs exploded Thursday morning in front of controversial businessman Peter Lim's office in Barangay Subangdaku in Mandaue City.

No one was injured but the explosion destroyed a mini dump truck. the left window of another truck and the main electrical switch of Hilton Motors Corp., a heavy equipment dealer in Cebu province.

The exhibition center was damaged by the police at 26,000 pesos.

Jun Fuentes, spokesman for the Lim family, said: "We leave it to the authorities to investigate.If they want something from us, the office is open."

Lim, he said, was in Metro Manila when the explosion occurred.

Lim faces an investigation at the Department of Justice identified by President Duterte as a great drug lord, a claim that the businessman had denied.

The drug trafficking charges against Lim had previously been rejected by a panel of prosecutors.

But public criticism and a threat from Mr. Duterte prompted Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II to overturn the court's decision and order another investigation into the charges against Lim. Aguirre later resigned from his post.

Supt. Roberto Alanas, director of Mandaue Police, said the attack "could be linked to possible commercial or scripted competition."

He formed an inter-agency working group consisting of the Canine Group Explosive Ordnance Detection Group in the center of Visayas and the police of Mandaue City to investigate the incident. – REPORTS OF NORMAN MENDOZA, FE MARIE DUMABOC AND ADOR VINCENT MAYOL
