The last time Charlie Puth was in the Philippines was in August 2016 when he seduced thousands of his Filipino fans who attended his concert. He treated them with four of his multi-platinum hits, "One Call Away", "Marvin Gaye" and "We Do not Talk Anymore" from his first Top 10 album, Nine Track Mind, as well as his break-up crush "See You Again ".
"See You Again", was the best-selling song of the year 2015 worldwide for 12 weeks at the Billboard Hot 100, three Grammy nominations (including Song of the Year), a Golden Globe nomination and a 9x-platinum certification in the United States.
The New Jersey-born singer, songwriter, musician and producer was also eager to prove himself artistically at the time of making his second album, Voicenotes, named after the trusty iPhone app that he uses to collect his musical ideas. Puth co-wrote each song and recorded and produced the entire album himself (except for one song that he co-produced with Max Martin) mainly in his home studio in Los Angeles.
On the lyrical level, Voicenotes is an album that is largely about Puth's struggle to find a normal relationship when his own life has not been nearly normal since the discovery of multiplatine success, and anxiety that the pursuit has induced.
"I wanted it to be the story of my travels from the East Coast to the West Coast and how my growing notoriety affected my mind in a positive and negative way," he says.
The first three singles – "Attention", "How Long", and "Done For Me" featuring Kehlani – cover this territory.
"Every time I met someone, they often knew more about me than about me," he says. "I had never seen anything like it before."
Despite all his success, Puth still sees himself as Rumson's child who played church organ and made mixtapes for girls at school.
