Government officials in the city of Naga congratulated themselves on the pursuit of 4.5 billion pesos against them and another five for the landslide in Barangay Tina-an nearly two months ago.
"Ila man pud nang katungod (that's their right). The court is also the appropriate place to determine if the city government is responsible for what happened, "said Arthur Villamor, administrator of the city of Naga.
The mayor of the city of Naga, Kristine Vanessa Chiong, also allowed the complaint.
"We will make further comments once I receive a copy of the complaint," she said.
Chito Maniago, Head of Corporate Communications at Apo Land and Quarry Corp. (ALQC), said that he would make no comment until he received a copy of the complaint.
At least 40 victims of landslides have filed lawsuits worth 4.5 billion pesos against the city of Naga, ALQC, Apo Cement Corp., Cemex Holdings Philippines Inc., Bureau of Mines and Geosciences (MGB) and the provincial government of Cebu.
The amount includes 1 million PAD of damages for each of the 78 dead and six missing. It is asking for 1 million pesos each for the 57 damaged houses, 100,000 pesos for each of the seven injured people who contributed to the filing of the complaint and 500,000 pesos for each of the 8,262 displaced persons.
