DFA provides assistance to Filipinos in Northern Mariana after "Yutu"

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) the Saturday assured the Filipino community of the Northern Mariana Islands of the assistance provided following the damage caused by the "Yutu" typhoon.

According to the FDFA, the staff of the Consulate General of the Philippines in Agana would be sent to the islands of Tinian and Rota to check the situation of Filipinos.

The islands of Tinian and Rota were devastated by Yutu. Some 600 Filipinos live in Tinian and there are 300 in Rota, the FDFA said.

Earlier, the FDFA sent a two-man team to examine the situation of 15,000 Filipinos in Saipan, who was also affected by "Yutu".

Consul General Marciano de Borja said the consulate had distributed relief to at least 600 Filipinos in Saipan directly affected by the typhoon.

De Borja also thanked the Saipan government for helping the Filipino community in the aftermath of the typhoon. / muf
