Disney creative to share secrets at Coast business event

HE WAS hailed down by Soviet Union forces while flying in a giant Mickey Mouse hot air balloon, he’s the creative mind that sent Buzz Lightyear to space and responsible for the construction of an Olympic-sized pool down Main Street, Disneyland, USA.

With ideas like that, there’s no question as to why Duncan Wardle was once the vice president of innovation and creative at Walt Disney – one of the most inventive companies in the world.

His mission? To break boundaries, inspire innovation and stretch the paths of imagination.

After achieving his lifelong goal in the company of his dreams, Mr Wardle is now focusing his attention to “spread the love” of his breakthrough concepts with companies all over the world, and Sunshine Coast businesses are the next in line to benefit from his expertise .

Mr Wardle will present at the Caloundra Chamber of Commerce’s business breakfast on Friday, October 26.

At the event, the TEDx presenter and successful business consultant will share his secrets to thinking outside of the box and revolutionising business practices to build unique brands.

Driven by ideas that break the rules, Mr Wardle has used these ideologies throughout his career to reinforce and sustain Walt Disney as a powerful and incomparable corporation.

“I love the audacious projects, the ones where you think, ‘Can I pull this off?’ Those are the ones you live for,” he said.

“We were flying over the Soviet Union when it was still the Soviet Union in this hot air balloon with massive Mickey Mouse ears and there was lots of shouting and lots of angry voices below and we knew we were getting told to get down, I was terrified. So we landed this giant hot air balloon behind the walls of Kremlin and these guards came running towards us, you know the stereotypical ones from the movies with the big round fluffy hats. And we were thinking, ‘Oh, we will never see our families again’ but you know what they wanted? They wanted their picture with Mickey Mouse,” Mr Wardle said.

“The power of the brand we worked for, it saved our lives.”

The Caloundra Chamber of Commerce is encouraging local entrepreneurs and business employees to come along to this ‘fairytale’ event to learn how to best utilise these concepts to transform their companies.
