DOH declares leptospirosis epidemic in the NCR

MANILA – Secretary of Health Francisco Duque III said Thursday epidemics in parts of Metro Manila following the increase in the number of leptospirosis cases in the past two weeks.

An outbreak of the disease was reported in the following barangays:

Quezon City

-Bagbag (3 cases), Silangan (5), Batasan Hills (9), Commonwealth (7), Novaliches Proper ( 4), Payatas (5), Pinyahan (3), Vasra (4)

Taguig City

– Lower Bicutan (5), Village Maharlika (3), Village Signal (4), West Bicutan (4),

City of Pasig

– Pinagbuhatan (4);

Town of Parañaque

-BF Houses (3), San Dionisio (3)

City of Navotas

-North Bay Blvd. South (3);

Mandaluyong City

-Addition Hills (3);

Malabon City

-Concepcion (3)

The symptoms of leptospirosis include high fever, muscle pain, redness of the eyes, yellowing of skin, colored urine of tea, decrease of the production of urine, cough, diarrhea and vomiting.
