The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) provided humanitarian assistance to the landslide victims and their families in Natonin, Mountain Province.
"Our staff from the Cordillera Administrative Region (RCA) field office conducted interviews and assessment of survivors of the landslide as well as the families of the victims, who died as a result of the incident, in order to provide the appropriate assistance and intervention, "Secretary Rolando Bautista said.
He added that DSWD would provide funeral assistance to bereaved families to cover funeral expenses. The ministry will also provide financial assistance of 5,000 pesetas to each of the families.
"We wish to express our sincere condolences to the families bereaved by the landslide. At DSWD, we will do our best to help them meet their needs during this very difficult time, "said Bautista.
In addition to meeting the needs of families affected by the landslide, DSWD-CAR also continues to monitor the status of evacuation centers still open in the province.
To ensure that there will be enough food for evacuees, DSWD-CAR sent 3,000 food parcels to the town of Natonin; 1,000 parcels of family food in the town of Paracelis; and 700 extra food packages at Barangay Anonat in Paracelis.
DSWD-CAR provided a total of 22,010 family food packages to various municipalities in the region to help local government units meet the needs of their constituents.
Of the total number of food packages distributed, 4,170 packages had already been provided to Benguet; 5,850 to Ifugao; 1,970 to Mountain Province; and 5,000 packages each in the provinces of Abra and Kalinga.
"Some affected areas are difficult to reach because they have been isolated because of the landslide, but with the help of our partners, humanitarian aid in these areas is already under way," said Bautista.
As of Sunday noon, there were still 135 families or 466 people in 15 evacuation centers in Cagayan Valley, Eastern Visayas and RCA due to Rosita.
Nine are in CAR, where 111 families or 3,114 people are currently seeking refuge.
DSWD has so far provided aid worth $ 693 964.25 to affected families.
