President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed broadcaster Ramon "My" Tulfo as special envoy to China.

Duterte signed Tulfo's nomination document Tuesday, which was handed out to Malacañang journalists on Thursday.

Tulfo will hold this position for six months.

Previously, Tulfo, in his Philippine Daily Inquirer column on Oct. 6, said he would not run for the Senate, despite positive results in pre-election polls. He added that he had rejected the help offered by Duterte for his senatorial offer.

Instead of running as a senator, the broadcaster offered to become a special envoy to China, which Duterte agreed to.

"As a special envoy to China, who pays only 1 P1 a year, I could keep my public service program – Isumbong mo kay Tulfo – on dzRP, my daily bread," he writes.

Duterte also signed on Tuesday the nomination document of the presidential adviser on the peace process, Jesus Dureza, as a special envoy of the European Union.

Dureza will hold this position until December 31, 2018. / I
