MANILA, Philippines – President Duterte could sign the Bangsamoro Organic Law before delivering his third State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, Malacañang said.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque thanked Congressmen for reconciling their versions of the bill, one of the priority measures of the Duterte administration.
The bicameral conference committee approved Bangsamoro's proposed organic law on Wednesday evening, a year after the Bangsamoro Transition Council submitted its draft to the president.
"We thank our legislators and the members of the Bangsamoro Transition Council because the bicameral conference for the BBL or the Bangsamoro Basic Law is over, and the president can now sign the BBL before its SONA on Monday," Roque said. .

Under the Constitution, the president has 30 days to sign a measure or veto it. If it does not happen within 30 days, the bill will lapse.
The House of Representatives and the Senate must ratify the bill separately before it can be sent to the President for signature .

Under the proposed law, a 75-25 wealth-sharing term in favor of the Bangsamoro region will be implemented to increase the region's share of the government's tax revenue.

The law also authorizes the Bangsamoro to apply Sharia law or Islamic law exclusively to cases involving Muslims. adhering to the Constitution.
Tribal laws will apply to disputes involving indigenous peoples in the region.
Duterte had previously stated that non-compliance with the BBL would aggravate the conflict in Mindanao and provide terrorist groups with the opportunity to recruit members.
