As part of National Disaster Resilience Month, the Davao City Office of Risk Reduction and Risk Management (DCRRMO) will conduct its second city tour at 9:00 am on July 27, 2018.
Lyndon Ancalas, Administrative Officer of DCRRMO Dabawenyos' cooperation in the Shake Out Drill, as it will help them respond to natural disasters such as earthquakes and tsunamis.
"The goal of the exercise is to develop disaster resilience in our communities. It is very important that they know how to prepare during and after an earthquake, "Ancajas said.
Ancajas also said that the earthquake and tsunami will be focused on hospitals because they are considered critical institutions in disasters.One of the main institutions that must be intact or functioning are the hospitals because we have injuries.They must be there to meet the needs of patients, "said M Ancajas
. Dabawenyos will participate in this event in the private and public sector, barangays, schools and government agencies. Shopping centers, hotels and other private companies have also announced their support for Citywide Shake Out.
Ancajas also added that the city's coastal barangays will also participate this year so that they know what to do in case of tsunamis.
Last year, July 14, half a million Dabawenyos participated in the first Shake Out Drill on the citywide scale.
This year, the DCCRMO will also establish a "field hospital" where the "wounded" will be
Zuleika T. Lopez, a lawyer for the municipal administration, said that preparation and vigilance are essential for reducing the number of victims and deaths in disasters
"It is important that we participate and that we know what to do – a disaster, we should always have the presence of mind", said Lopez.
Lopez also encouraged Dabawenyos to participate in the exercise and she added that through constant practice by actively participating in the natural preparation exercises, Dabawenyos will be ready to respond properly to the midst of the disasters.
