HBO, the BBC and the French channel Canal + have partnered to distribute "Years & Years", a limited series about a celebrity who has become a powerful politician.

Emma Thompson, who won an Oscar for her portrayal of "Sense and Sensibility" in Jane Austen's adaptation in 1995, will play a leading role in a British family drama set in a political context.

The actress will play the role of Vivienne Rook, a celebrity and a politician known for her controversial views.

Described as an artist, rebel and trickster as well as a political figure who divides, Rook appears to be in power for at least part of the time of the 2019 series. He follows the fortunes of the Lyonnais family on a period of 15 years, faced with the political, technological and economic uncertainties to which she and the nation as a whole have been confronted.

Family members include Stephen (Rory Kinnear, "Skyfall"), financial advisor, and his wife Celeste (T & # 39; Nia Miller, BBC comedy thriller, "Witless"), his accountant, and his brother, Daniel, a real estate agent (Russell Tovey, "Quantico"), the astute sister Edith (Jessica Hynes, "Bridget Jones's Baby"), the pregnant woman, Rosie (Ruth Madeley, "Cold Feet") and the matriarch Muriel ( Anne Reid, "The House of Fear").

The drama about the state of the nation was written by Russell T. Davies of "Doctor Who" and "A Very English Scandal".

Thompson won both Golden Globes and Oscars for "Howards End" and "Sense and Sensibility" from the early to the mid-1990s. More recently, she appeared in "Bridget Jones's Baby", the remake "Beauty and the Beast" from Disney, "The Meyerowitz Stories" and "Johnny English Strikes Again".

Upcoming projects include "Men in Black" from 2019, "The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle" from 2020 and the reinvention film "How to Build a Girl". KM
